Bengal CM
Joining
the protest against the ouster of Sourav Ganguly from the
Indian Test team, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee today
described the move as unjust and 'an insult both to Sourav
and all of us'.
"This
is unjust... It is an insult to both Sourav and to all of
us," Bhattacharjee, an avid cricket fan, told reporters at the
Secretariat when asked to comment on the issue
Stating
that he had received the news of Ganguly's sacking while in Delhi,
Bhattacharjee said he had discussed the matter with the newly-elected BCCI
President and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. "I told him,
nobody can accept such a decision. Let us see what happens now" .
Loksabha
speaker
Speaker
Somnath Chatterjee said: great "injustice" had been meted out to
the deposed India captain, "who is a great world-class player, due to
politics in the game".
"Such incidents
will affect the morale of young players and we must take corrective
measures," he added
CPI
leader Gurudas dasgupta
My dear
Sharad Pawarji, I am outrageously shocked at the exclusion of Sourav Ganguly from the Indian Test team. His exclusion was not on merit.
If the selection committee does not function on merit the future of Indian
cricket is bleak. I am sending this letter to you seeking your
intervention to protect Indian cricket from narrow politics. If this
happens to Sourav Ganguly this can happen to any cricketer in
future.
I request you that Sourav
should be included in the next Indian cricket team," Mr Dasgupta
