Sourav made comments at different occasions on various issues Captaincy
"The captain has a big role. It is important to keep the boys' confidence high and to keep one's faith in them. I try to give my support to the youngsters because nobody comes in as a world beater. Okay, some rare cricketers score a century on debut, but that doesn't mean the rest are not good enough. We have to give them more opportunities, which was not there when I started out. Captaincy these days is more off the field than on the field. "
Whether people agree or not, a captain is under more pressure and that is the reason he is selected before everybody else and given time,
“Captaincy not an issue, playing for India is motivation”- Sourav
"Captain or no captain, my goals remain same" -Sourav
Nobody is a born captain. Most of the time, I have gone on instinct.
World Cup Final
"Thanks to them [the wicket takers] and my other team-mates for their efforts in getting to the final. Obviously we didn't win but I'm very proud of them. "
I thank them [the supporters] for turning up in such huge numbers. We couldn't bring the Cup home, but I think the way we played throughout the series and the fact we lost to the better team means that we can go home with out heads held up high"
Faith to Team Mates
"From my past performances , from my past success , I know all days cannot be rosy and what keeps me going is the support from my team. [Answering from the question: Where did you get the strength to fight from?"
Come back phase
"Yes, I am definitely keen to get back to coloured clothing. With all
the runs behind me in one-day cricket, I'm looking forward to playing
the World Cup as well," --Sourav on 2007 world cup
"I played well in both the innings. But a big score was required at
that stage, which did not happen. It is a disappointment. But at least
you know you are playing well." -- Sourav after Karachi test
"I think it is a bit of a myth or wrong perception. You have to look
at my career, (I have scored) runs in Australia, England and on other
difficult surfaces. The last time I came to Pakistan, I had a
successful series. So, I think it is more of a notion. It is good that
I batted well against a genuine pace and I'm sure it is going to stand
me good in the future matches for India." --Sourav (On the belief
that he is susceptible to fast pitches and true pacers )
"Of course, I have been asked to open before and I have agreed here
[in Pakistan] and in the future too, I have no problems opening the
innings." --Sourav ( on his opening issue in Pak soil)
"At the moment I have no plans to retire as I am playing well and will
continue to play -- Sourav , after Karachi test feb,2006
"I don't have to prove I can play”- Sourav
